Steel is the Material of Choice for the Jaguar XK Fuel Tank

Jaguar XK

The luxurious Jaguar XK features a 16.1 gallon, third-generation fuel tank manufactured by Unipart Eberspächer. Produced in the United Kingdom, the XK features a 5.0 liter V8 naturally aspirated 385 HP engine, the XKR features a 5.0 liter V8 super charged 510 HP engine and the XKR-S is a 5.0 liter V8 super charged 550 HP engine.

Launched in 2006, the XK is available as a two-door coupe and two-door cabriolet / convertible. Its standard open system steel tank features a 0.8 to 0.9 mm nominal wall thickness and weighs 13.2 kg. The tank is a saddle design, allowing for the prop shaft and exhaust to run through the center of the vehicle.

The tank utilizes a 304 deep draw quality, 0.9 mm-thick stainless steel and has a 3-D seam, which is welded with a multi-axis Soutec Contour II machine. The fuel tank is PZEV capable and designed to allow the use of aggressive fuels.

Produced by Unipart Eberspächer since 2006, the third-generation steel fuel tank was originally created with mild steel and was internally mounted within the boot cavity, moving onto a stainless steel externally mounted fuel tank.
