Strategic Alliance for Steel Fuel Tanks Appoints Michael A. White Program Manager

The Strategic Alliance for Steel Fuel Tanks (SASFT), together with the Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI), a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute, recently announced the appointment of Michael White as SASFT program manager. In this position, White will be responsible for managing the group’s technical and market development initiatives, and leading technology transfer of steel fuel tank design and benefits with automakers, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, universities and other strategic groups. His focus will include new SASFT projectsand the development of a toolkit to help automakers in applying preferred steel grades and optimized design methods to future steel fuel tanks.

“Mike has a strong track record of project managementworking with both SMDI and the Auto/Steel Partnership on technical research programs.” Dr. Jody Hall, vice president, automotive market, SMDI, said. “Steel shows a strong case as material of choice for next generation fuel tanks. Michael’s work as Technical Project Manager with the Auto/Steel Partnershipincludes leading various direct OEM projects, Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) welding, corrosion and repairability, and managing the SMDI Bumpers Task Force. He manages overall technical project teams to consensus and development of robust project plans, including progress, resources, milestones, deliverables, quality, timing and cost. Upon completion of the Ford College Graduate Program, Mike started his career with Ford Motor Company including positions as Product and Component Design, and Analytical Powertrain Engineer.White earned his B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee State University and M.S. Engineering – Thermal Fluid Systems from Wayne State University.
